Illinois to Allow Only Six-Person Juries in Civil Cases
Starting June 1, 2015, all juries hearing a civil case in Illinois will be composed of only six persons instead of the traditional twelve. This new law raises a lot of questions. Is the change constitutional? Does it apply to all civil cases? Should we expect small juries to behave differently than the traditional twelve-person jury? We address these concerns and other frequently asked questions.
Defense Verdict in Brain-Damaged Baby/Maternal Death Lawsuit
Kevin Miller recently obtained a defense verdict in a two-week medical malpractice claim. At trial, Plaintiff claimed that the doctor was negligent in failing to order a loading dose of magnesium sulfate to prevent eclamptic seizures, and that he failed to perform a perimortem Cesarean section delivery in a timely fashion. Attorney Matt Maddox second-chaired the case.
