Quinn Johnston Featured in Peoria Journal Star
Quinn Johnston partner, Mitch Gilfillan, was featured in the July 6, 2025, edition of the Peoria Journal Star newspaper. As part of his practice involving personal injury litigation, medical malpractice defense, business and family law, Gilfillan carves out time for sports law, particularly in the new Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) arena. NIL allows student-athletes – mostly in college – to make money from their personal brand which became legal in 2021. As a nationally recognized lawyer, Gilfillan has been a keynote speaker at sporting events such as the Final Four and lectured at the most well-known Universities in the country. While speaking at an NBA Players Association event in South Carolina this June, Jay Bilas of ESPN referred to Gilfillan’s panel as “the brightest minds in the country when it comes to sports and the law.”
The Peoria Journal Star article discussed a transaction involving Gilfillan representing the top-ranked football recruit in the State of Illinois who recently committed to the University of Alabama. As a former athlete and coach at the Division I level, Gilfillan understands the sports industry and the dynamics that come with it. He has been quoted and referenced on outlets such as ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CBS, the New York Post and serves as the legal analyst for Field of 68 sports, a media company dedicated to college basketball.
